Submission Guidelines

While initially formed to publish the works of its founder, Inheritance Press occasionally publishes high-quality works from promising authors in areas of personal interest to the publisher (see genres, below). We do not accept works that have been previously published.

Before sending any material, please review all guidelines on this page. Inheritance Press will not consider submissions that do not meet our guidelines.

Genres

Inheritance Press is currently accepting nonfiction submissions in the following genres:

  • Workplace learning (adult learning, curriculum development, instructional design, e-learning, mobile learning, test writing, training)
  • Local history
  • Personal memoirs

For unsolicited submissions in all other genres, please query via email prior to submitting a proposal.

Proposals

Book proposals should include the following:

  • Proposed title
  • A brief synopsis of the work
  • Estimated word count
  • Estimated number of photos or illustrations
  • When you can deliver the full manuscript
  • A brief biography of yourself, your credentials, and other writing credits (if any)
  • Description of target audience (who they are, how they will benefit from your book)
  • Your assessment of the market potential for the book (size of the audience, how/where they will learn about the book)
  • Competing titles and how your book differs from or improves on the competition
  • What you can do to help market your book (promotion/distribution opportunities, endorsements, personal and professional contacts, contacts with associations/organizations/groups, etc.)
  • A table of contents with chapter summaries
  • At least three sample chapters

How to Submit

Inheritance Press accepts proposals via mail or email. We do not field queries by phone.

All mail submissions must include a SASE or a valid email address for our response. If you would like your material returned to you if it is not accepted for publication, include a SASE with proper postage. Submissions with no SASE will be recycled.

Please send a copy only. Do not send original materials or materials that cannot be replaced.

Proposals and manuscripts sent via email must be provided as attachments in Microsoft Word format.

Additional Information

All submissions are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. We generally respond to proposals with a decision within 60 days.

If we have not responded within 60 days, you may inquire about submission status by email at submissions@inheritancepress.com. We do not accept phone inquiries about the status of submissions.

Inheritance Press is selective in the manuscripts we accept. However, as a small independent publisher, we follow a hybrid cost-sharing model to prepare your work for publication and distribution, and we request authors to assist in marketing their books.
